Meet Poppyseed "Poppy" Cahalan. She is a Miniature Schnauzer and my new Social Emotional Support dog. Yes, she has a little laminated card in my wallet proving that her owner is well...kinda special.
Isn't it wild how most of us speak in different voices and tones to dogs and babies? It is like this High Pitch, Happy & Nurturing Tone lives inside of all of us and only comes out in the presence of a dog or baby.
This voice is involuntary for most of us. We feel like we want this small mammal to know how much we want to reach them. We want them to pay attention to us. We want to connect with them. We want them to know how much we love them. We want them to feel safe in our presence.
But similar to a bilingual speaker flipping from one language to another, we can flip our tone so quickly between this nurturer-voice to one of my personal favorites, my "Please-Get-This-Shit-Done" voice in a nano second.
Because I know Chris-the-hubs does not read these posts, I am going to try to use my Poppy voice with him to see if it changes our conversations. If I were on TikTok, I am pretty sure this kind of video would go viral. For now, please just imagine it with me and give it a try yourself.
