I have told countless teens that I don't care if they don't like to write.
I have pleaded with them to give writing a chance or even a second chance to transform their lives. Ideally, a pen on paper. Fingers and thumbs on a screen will also do.
Writing is free(ish). It is therapeutic. It can be done anywhere. And it is a wonderful and proven strategy for discovering our weird and awkward selves. And once we know more about ourselves, we can start to better advocate for our own needs and articulate what we are thinking and feeling. Because feeling indigestion is the worse.
My favorite prescription: Get out a piece of loose-leaf paper and fill both sides.
No rules. No time limit. Just start writing.
Before you know it, you may start to like this healthy vice. You were warned here.
How about writing on your walls?
